I stumbled across a comment in a blog post today where people were railing at Joomla and how terrible the code was for Joomla extensions, when, say, compared to Drupal.
Well, I think this is actually true… here’s why…
Joomla is a lot easier to code for than Drupal, the latter having a much bigger expertise hoop to jump through. This makes the universe of extensions for Joomla much much bigger. It also means these extensions can be developed by those with more basic, beginner, PHP skills.
Now on one hand, this is a strength of the Joomla framework – diversity, but it also means the quality of extensions varies much more than Drupal. The top end of well developed MVC ones are there, but you need to do more due diligence to find them.
